CAMBRIDGE, MA – June 2, 2014 – Software developer, Pagos Inc., announced the release of SpreadsheetWEB Version 4.3, featuring new features to help developers extend the capabilities of web applications created with SpreadsheetWEB.
Microosoft Excel developers enjoyed programming spreadsheets for years. Using VBA they can extend the capabilities of Excel beyond its built-in features. They can develop forms and interact with input controls. They can build complex Excel applications by writing VBA code. However, the final applciation is still desktop based and requires Microsoft Excel on the enduser computer. Extending the same type of functionality and programmatically interact with a spreadsheet via web browsers is a very powerful functionality. The new Extension support in SpreadsheetWEB is designed for this. It allows developers to access each element in a SpreadsheetWEB application programatically. They can build complex UI rules without any unncessary server calls. They can decouple UI rules from actual business logic handled by worksheet formulas. Eliminating unnecessary server calls improves the responsiveness of SpreadsheetWEB applications and leads to better end-user experience.
“Most of our clients are converting complex spreadsheets into web applications using SpreadsheetWEB. Many of these applications include extensive UI rules handled by the worksheet formulas. But this means additional server calls and slower response times,” said Ugur Kadakal, CEO of Pagos. “To improve the responsiveness of complex SpreadsheetWEB applications, we developed the Extension support. Programmers can now easily add code on top of a SpreadsheetWEB application and handle many of the UI operations on the browser side. This eliminates unnecessary server calls and improve the responsiveness of those applications significantly.”
